Emergency Notification Information
The City of Tomball has contracted with CivicReady for high-speed telephone emergency notification services. The CivicReady system gives city officials the ability to deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone notification / information messages to targeted areas or the entire city.
Randy Parr, The City of Tomball's Emergency Management Coordinator, cautioned that such systems are only as good as the telephone database supporting them. While the initial data is automatically accumulated by the system, unlisted numbers and cell phone numbers will not be in the data base. "If your phone number is not in the database, you will not be called." The CivicReady system not only offers faster calling rates and improved message delivery, it gives individuals and businesses the ability to add their own phone numbers directly to the system's telephone database. Parr emphasizes that this is an extremely important and valuable feature. If a resident is at work or away from home when the call is made, the resident may not receive the information. Adding a cell phone number to the database will assist in getting the message out to everyone.
To ensure no one is omitted, Chief Parr urges all individuals and businesses to register. Those without internet access may call Tomball's Emergency Management Office at 281-351-7101), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., to give their information over the phone. Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number, additional phone numbers and email address.
No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included, Parr said. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, those who have changed their phone number or address within the last year, and those who use a cellular phone as their primary home phone.
